How it works
Behind the page is a small neural network: a program that learned to tell geese from ducks by looking at examples rather than by following rules someone wrote down. We showed it a few thousand photos, each labelled goose or duck. Every time it guessed wrong, its internal settings were nudged a little, and after enough rounds it had latched onto the things that really separate the two: the shape of the bill, the length of the neck, the proportions of the body, the way the bird carries itself.
It has only ever seen geese and ducks. Show it a swan or a cat and it will still pick one, because those are the only answers it knows. Treat anything under about seventy percent as a shrug.
